A creative mompreneur's journey (part 1)

All my stylish in town, Hi!

I am Narges (nar + guess). I am 37 and originally from Tehran, Iran. I came to the US on 2013 (Toledo, OH) to be exact) in 2013 for a Master’s program. I graduated and got married to an amazing being, Brad <3. My life has been a story of cross country moves since then.

Tehran, my hometown and it’s gorgeous snow capped mountains…

I am a nerd - a stylish one, if you will - Since I arrived in this land of the free, I have been struggling to find what I want to do with my life. I got here on the verge of turning 30. Cultural shock was real! I started with baby-sitting my nephew and went on to trying a short term interior designer assistant position and a part time jewelry stylist opportunity. But Magic did finally happen on 2018 and I found what I was meant to do. I combined all my different passions to start a fashion business! Confetti, please! :D

Yes, starting up a business that has nothing to do with either of the 3 degrees I had already. Political Sciences and Psychology (back in Iran) and Organizational Leadership in Toledo, OH. Interestingly enough, I felt all the dots were connecting with Fashion Design.

Since I can remember, I always cared about my style and my clothes. I believe the right clothing can boost anybody’s confidence in a matter of seconds. Growing up back in Iran, because of my personal seamstress for 20-something years, my mom, I could have all I wanted to wear! God bless her!

My mom is also the reason why I never bothered to learn how to sew. Why would I when I had the best semastress on demand? Instant gratification, anyone?

And let me tell you, learning how to sew is not easy! It takes good levels of patience and determination (plus some anger-management skills) to start from a total beginner level. And hard to stay with it!

Back in Tehran in the 90s, I used to go to fabric stores with my mom and go through loads of fabric to find the winner. Then I sketched my designs and watched her like a hawk as she sewed pieces together. Not to learn, I just wanted to make sure everything was just as I envisioned in my head. A little perfectionist from the get-go, and I owe that to my dad.

These are my fashion sketches/drawings from grade school to junior high in the 90s in my hometown, Tehran. Look at all the detailed outfits, accessories, colors and patterns, and last but not least, a romantic partner :))

Continue reading part two to learn how my husband and I started our two cross-country moves, where we ended up, and how a sincere sisterly talk made me start taking fashion sewing classes.

All the good vibes,
